What's New in Refining?

April 19, 2016

Have you ever wondered about Catalytic Cracking? Platformers? Isomerisation? Octane Numbers? If you have, then you may need to attend our new course.

ESD are pleased to announce a new training course to complement our existing courses on refining operations. The new course, Crude Oil Refining - A Practical Introduction, is a great overview of the different refinery processes and how they are operated and controlled. It is ideal for anyone wanting to know more about oil refining, especially if you are getting into the industry for the first time.

This new course complements the existing ESD courses which relate specifically to oil refineries and include:

Control & Operation of Centrifugal Gas Compressors
Practical Aspects of Process Control and Instrumentation
Control & Operation of Distillation Columns
Control, Operation and Design of Reciprocating Compressors

As always, ESD is happy to customise any course to meet your particular needs. About 50% of all the courses we run each year are customised to individual customers' requirements.

When customising courses for refineries, we often focus on some or all of the following topics:

  • Control Systems
  • Hazards and Risks
  • ESD Systems
  • Fire & Gas Systems
  • Design Challenges
  • Catalytic Cracking
  • Steam Reforming
  • Hydrotreating
  • Alkylation
  • Polymerisation
  • Coking
  • Lube Oil Plants
  • Crude Oil Distillation
  • Vacuum Distillation

Over the past 27 years ESD has delivered training on oil refineries all over the world, including plants in UK, Europe, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada and the USA.
